Medical Technology Production Expansion in Marktredwitz
Marktredwitz, September 22, 2026 – CeramTec today opened its new extension building at its Marktredwitz site. We are sending a clear signal of technological excellence, high standards of quality, and our strong commitment to medical technology “Made in Germany”.
The investment creates additional capacity for ceramic components used in hip and knee joint replacements. These components help patients regain mobility and physical activity.
Modern Manufacturing for World-Class Medical Technology
With a total area of 12,000 m², including around 5,000 m² of production space, the new extension building offers modern production conditions that meet the high demands of medical technology. State-of-the-art cleanroom technology and high-end measurement equipment provide the foundation for precise manufacturing processes.
The newly created facilities produce ceramic components, including those used in hip and knee joint replacements. These products address a growing societal need: as the population ages, global demand for hip and knee joint replacement solutions is rising. For CeramTec, “longevity” is not a lifestyle trend but an industrial growth market.

Built for the Future
To sustainably expand production capacity, a high double-digit million euro amount was invested in the site. From the ground-breaking ceremony in September 2023 to the phased start-up in 2026, a future-ready production expansion was created over three years.
With this third medical technology production facility, customer requests can be met at a greater scale and with the same consistently high quality. This provides customers with a high level of supply security. The new building is also designed for long-term growth, with capacity for future expansion stages and additional automation already incorporated into the site.
The Strength of the Site: Experienced Teams and Proven Expertise
The extension building is the logical continuation of a strong site. With around 800 employees, Marktredwitz is CeramTec’s largest location. Here, well-established expertise in medical technology meets modern manufacturing technologies, creating the basis for future growth.
In addition, Marktredwitz also manufactures ceramic components for industrial applications. In its Industrial business unit, CeramTec focuses on future markets such as the semiconductor industry, piezoceramics, and the substrates produced in Marktredwitz, which enable, among other things, innovations in electromobility.
This combination makes the site highly capable and strengthens its development in the long term.
